Suspected Car Battery Thief Escapes Being Burnt Alive After Being Beaten Mercilessly in Calabar ( Photos )

A man has been brutally beaten and nearly burnt alive after he was caught allegedly stealing car battery in Calabar .
A suspected car battery thief got more than what he could chew yesterday after he was beaten severely by an angry mob at Akai Effa , Calabar , Cross River State . He was about to be set ablaze before policemen rescued him from the clutches of death .
He was said to have been chased on Monday , but escaped . On Tuesday afternoon, he went back to a location close to where he had been chased on Monday , and was caught this time.
After being severely beaten with hands , stones and sticks , the mob had poured fuel on him and dragged a tyre from a nearby compound to burn him alive.
He was , however , lucky that security operatives came before being set ablaze. He was eventually taken away.
